Duet on Alex Play Zone

Duet is a logic puzzle on a 6 × 6 grid. Every cell must hold one of two symbols — a gold disc or a blue diamond — and three short rules decide which. A few cells are filled in for you; the rest follow by reasoning.

Every puzzle on Alex Play Zone has exactly one answer, and that answer can always be reached without guessing. If you find yourself guessing, there is a deduction you have not yet seen.

How to start a game

  1. 1Open Duet on Alex Play Zone. The current puzzle is waiting; the clock starts when you open it.
  2. 2Tap a cell to change it: empty, then gold, then blue, then empty again.
  3. 3Cells that break a rule turn red. Undo steps back one move; Clear empties everything you filled in.
  4. 4The puzzle is checked by itself the moment the grid is full and correct.

The rules of Duet

The three rules

  • Never three of the same symbol next to each other, across or down.
  • Every row and every column holds exactly three gold and three blue.
  • A mark between two cells must be obeyed: = means the two cells are the same, × means they are different.
  • The darker cells are given and cannot be changed.

A new puzzle every two hours

  • One new puzzle is made every two hours, and it is the same for every player.
  • You get one go at each puzzle. Leave and come back whenever you like: your grid is kept and the clock only runs while the puzzle is open.
  • When the next puzzle arrives, an unfinished one is closed and shows as abandoned in your Battle Log.

Rewards

  • The faster you solve it, the more XP and coins you earn — the same number of each.
  • Harder puzzles pay more: up to 35 for an easy one, 55 for a medium and 75 for a hard one.
  • Guests can play; XP and coins need a free account.

How to play well

Pairs

Two of the same symbol side by side mean the cells on both ends of the pair must be the other symbol — otherwise there would be three in a row.

Gaps

Two of the same symbol with one empty cell between them force that cell to be the other symbol, for the same reason.

Counting

Once a row or column has its three gold, every remaining cell in it is blue — and the other way round. Check the count each time you place a symbol.

Follow the marks

An = or × links two cells: as soon as you know one, you know the other. A chain of marks can carry a single deduction right across the grid.

Remember: Start from pairs: two of the same side by side mean the cells at both ends must be the other symbol.

Common mistakes

  • Guessing early. A wrong guess is only discovered many moves later and costs far more time than looking for the next sure step.
  • Checking rows but forgetting columns — every rule applies in both directions.
  • Overlooking the = and × marks, which are often the key to the hardest grids.

Questions and answers

How often is there a new puzzle?
Every two hours, and everyone gets the same one.
Can I retry a puzzle?
No — each puzzle gives you one go. You can pause by leaving; the clock stops while the puzzle is closed.
Does it ever need guessing?
No. Every Duet puzzle has a single answer that can be found by logic alone.
